Ma đơ len đang mở đại tiệc chiêu đãi các đại biểu thì có tin Lỗ Toàn Nhi, đại biểu thứ hai của TQ không mời mà đến làm ông ngớ người, không hiểu sự cố gì xảy ra nữa? Hay tại đám thư ký của ông nhầm, mời một hóa hai? Ông quay sang hỏi viên cố vấn văn chương xem Lỗ Thị người Trung Quốc là nhân vật do ai sáng tạo ra.
Viên cố vấn của ông trình tự báo cáo: Lỗ Thị là nhân vật trong tiểu thuyết “Báu vật của đời” do nhà văn Mạc Ngôn sinh hạ. Bà ta tiêu biểu cho mẫu người phụ nữ Trung Quốc nhẫn nhịn, chịu đựng những tập tục cổ hủ của một đất nước nhiều đời vua chúa bạo tàn… hơi tý tội là lôi ra chém đầu! Suốt từ thời Đông Chu Liệt quốc, sang Hán - Sở tranh hùng, đến Tam Quốc tranh bá, Chinh Đông Chinh Tây các nghìn năm trước. Thế kỷ 20 thì thập kỷ nọ nối tiếp thập kỷ kia chiến tranh, tranh giành quyền bính liên miên. Nghèo khổ, đói khát… mọi cay đắng ở đời Lỗ Thị đều nếm trải, vượt qua. Chỉ để dành vị trí chủ gia đình thì việc này bà ta lại làm sai nhân cách của người vợ Trung Hoa chung thủy nhẫn nhịn. Bà ta lang chạ với bảy người đàn ông để sinh ra tám đứa con… vân vân và vân vân… Ma Đơ Len nghe xong, cho rằng Lỗ Thị là nhân vật đáng được mời lắm chứ. Ông đứng dậy xin lỗi các thực khách cho ông vắng mặt 15 phút. Ông nghĩ, mời một mình AQ là không khách quan. Đáng ra nước lớn như Trung Quốc phải mời người ta một đoàn vài chục người mới xứng với nền văn chương đại nhảy vụt những chương hồi vòng vo tam quốc lê thê. Trong khi Đông ki sốt của Tây Ban Nha còn nằm trong bụng mẹ thì người Trung Hoa đã quảng đại thần thông biến hóa ra Tôn Ngộ Không, Trư Bát Giới, Sa Tăng với những yêu rừng, quỷ biển đi mây về gió thành thần khiến người lương thiện đụng đâu là gặp ma ngăn đường, quỷ chặn lối phanh thây xé xác họ ra để hút máu, ăn thịt! Mà festival ở đâu chẳng có sự ăn theo. Hồi ông du lịch sang nước S để dự festival một cung đình cổ, người ta festival trăm thứ bà rằn mà vẫn hay; hoành tráng đến cả bát bún bò giò heo bán vỉa hè. Là đàn bà mà Lỗ Thị dám tự túc mọi chi phí cất công đến tận đây dự thì trước nhất phải ưu tiên phụ nữ cái đã. Dù sao thì cũng phải khâm phục cái sự dám quyết, dám làm, dám đi của bà ta!
Ma Đơ Len tự lái xe ra tận chân cầu thang máy bay nói lời xin lỗi và đón
Lỗ Thị về phòng tiệc. Rồi ông cho bày một bàn tiệc mới, món nào cũng bốc hơi
xào nấu nóng hôi hổi, cùng ban chấp hành lâm thời tiếp Lỗ Thị trịnh
trọng.
Trong khi ấy ở Việt Nam Trạch Văn Đoành nghe tin Lỗ Toàn Nhi bên Trung Quốc tự
túc đi dự festival. Dòng máu con Rồng cháu Tiên bỗng nổi bệnh sĩ đỏ hồng sắc
diện. Trạch rút ngay máy điện thoại di động bấm nhoay nhoáy gọi cho đàn con,
cháu, chắt, chút, chít đang là những doanh nhân “buôn” đất nông nghiệp mà giàu,
bắt chúng thuê cho máy bay để đi dự festival. Người làng thấy vậy khuyên Trạnh
Văn Đoành chớ dại mà đi. Bởi Trạch làm sao nổi tiếng bằng Chí Phèo. Sang đấy
người ta biết mình là ai? “Ai nói gì, mặc họ”! Trạch “cứ làm theo ý mình” (Nam cao). Những lời gàn kia không làm Trạch Văn
Đoành nhụt chí. Trạch dướn người vỗ bịch giữa ngực, nói với mọi người:
- Trạch này không nổi tiếng bằng Chí Phèo nhưng thành tích với anh cu Tây thì
Trạch Văn Đoành ta đầy mình. Trạch này từng sang đánh nhau hộ nước Pháp - nói
riêng; hộ cả Châu Âu hồi thế chiến thứ nhất - nói chung. Cái mề đay họ tặng
thưởng Trạch ta còn giữ nguyên đây!
Vừa nói,
Trạch Văn Đoành vừa móc túi ngực lôi ra một gói, lẩn mẩn cởi mấy lần dây buộc,
giơ cao cái mề đay treo trên đầu ngón tay trỏ lắc qua lắc lại lủng lẳng cho mọi
người chứng kiến tận mắt. Lại chạy vào nhà mở tủ trưng bày bảo vật gia đình đưa
ra cái áo “ba-đơ-xuy sắc chó gio”(Nam Cao), chiếc mũ chào
mào, đôi giầy xăng đá (giày đinh), dây xanh tuya rông trổ những lỗ tổ ong
tròn kín từ đầu đến đuôi cái dây mà khi từ Pháp về Trạch giữ lại vật quân trang
này làm kỷ niệm.
- Các
người thử nhìn xem Trạch Văn Đoành có xứng đáng được ưu tiên hơn Chí Phèo, AQ
và mụ Lỗ Toàn Nhi Không? Những vật chứng này mà không đủ giá trị đi dự festival
ở đảo Hòa Bình thì… Trạch Văn Đoành ta bỏ tiền ra mua một xuất để đi. Chức nọ
chức kia thiên hạ còn bỏ tiền ra mua tới tới để thăng tiến nữa là mua xuất dự
festival vui vẻ vài ngày? - Chuyện đó nhỏ như con thỏ!
Thấy Trạch Văn Đoành dẫn ra “nhân chứng, vật chứng” rõ rành rành những thành
tích “kháng chiến” của mình làm cho đám người làng hay gàn bát sách ngẩn tò te,
im thít để Trạch Văn Đoành muốn đi đâu thì đi, không ai bàn vào bàn ra gì nữa.
Hôm sau Trạch Văn Đoành, chân thượng đôi giầy xăng đá, mình khoác cái áo “ba đờ
xuy sắc chó gio” một mình lên đường đi dự festival làm các công dân làng Vũ Đại
từ già cho chí trẻ xanh mắt mèo cả lượt.
Nghe tin Trạch Văn Đoành tự túc đi dự festival, Tám Bính, Chị Dậu, Xuân Tóc Đỏ
cũng muốn lắm. Hèm một nỗi Dậu, Bính, Xuân không đủ khả năng về tài chính. Con,
cháu các nhân vật này vẫn “con xã chùa đi quét lá đa” chẳng giàu có gì hơn ngày
xưa là mấy thành thử muốn chỉ để… mà muốn cho đỡ thèm.
Năm 1945,
Dậu cũng nông dân vùng lên, vác đòn càn đi phá kho thóc của Nhật, quan lại, địa
chủ đem chia cho người nghèo. Đi cướp chính quyền, sau đó hoạt động trong vùng
tề cho đến ngày kháng chiến thắng lợi. Cải cách ruộng đất Dậu lên làm chủ tịch
xã đôi ba năm. Vì trình độ Văn Bố Cu Hóa mới bình dân học vụ nên không thể kham
nổi chức chủ tịch xã lâu dài. Cấp trên cho đi bồi dưỡng, nâng cao trình độ văn
hóa ở trường Bổ - Túc - Công - Nông nhưng gặp lúc nhà Dậu neo người nên Dậu
không đi, rút lui về đi cấy... lấy công điểm hợp tác dễ ăn hơn việc “cơm nhà
vác tù và hàng tổng” thành thử gia đình Dậu nghèo vẫn hoàn… nghèo ngặt…
Tám Bính,
khi cách mạng thành công đâu đó rồi mới biết, tiện tàu hỏa cùng Năm Sài Gòn
theo đoàn quân Nam Tiến vào Nam tiêu diệt đế quốc sài lang. Do chỉ còn một bàn
tay không thể bóp cò súng. Định đi theo để cứu thương hoặc làm chân chị nuôi.
Nhưng cứu thương và chân chị nuôi cũng không nổi khi chỉ với một bàn tay năm
ngón, dù Bính rất nhiệt tình cách mạng. Bính đành ở lại bán nước rong ở cửa một
ga xép. Năm Sài Gòn về Nam chiến đấu và hy sinh trên quê hương yêu dấu
của mình. Bụng cũng muốn đi xuất ngoại một chuyến cho biết đó biết đây nhưng
thủ tục “đầu tiên” hạn hẹp, Bính đành nuốt nước bọt mà thèm, ngồi nhà hướng về
đảo Hòa Bình để hưởng ứng bằng… tinh thần sẵn sàng đóng góp tràng vỗ tay cổ vũ
từ xa.
Xuân Tóc
Đỏ tham gia cướp chính quyền tại một quận nội thành HN. Kháng chiến chín năm đi
bộ đôi, bị thương không còn sức chiến đấu, chuyển ngành về làm bảo vệ ở một cơ
quan cho đến tuổi nghỉ hưu. Hưu mãi cũng buồn, Xuân tậu chiếc xe ba bánh (xe
Lam) đứng tên đăng ký cho thằng con đi tham gia giao thông vận tải hàng hóa,
còn mình xin làm chân bảo vệ cho một sân tennis. Nói chung, kinh tế nhà Xuân
Tóc Đỏ chỉ vặt mũi đút lỗ miệng vừa xoẳn, tiền đâu mà nghĩ đến festival! - Lại
dẹp!
Trạch Văn
Đoành được đám con, cháu, chắt, chút, chít tài trợ tiền cho đi. Trạch thuê mình
một chiếc máy bay du lịch bay đi đảo Hòa Bình cho thiên hạ biết mặt. Hôm lên
đường, Trạch dậy sớm ra chợ mua đôi móng giò, lại vào siêu thị mua một túi bánh
mì hảo hạng nhãn Ma de in Việt Nam thủ theo để làm quà biếu ông thị trưởng.
Trạch nghĩ: Chắc ông Ma Đơ Len khoái ăn bánh mì lắm. Khoái, nên thuở hàn vì ông
ta mới đi ăn trộm bánh mì? Đôi móng giò, đem theo phòng khi bên đó họ cho xem
diễn tuồng còn có cái mà quăng lên tặng cho bọn đào, kép hát.
Ma Đơ Len đang tiệc tùng, chúc tụng nhau vui vẻ. Lại có tin báo vào, Việt Nam
có nhân vật thứ hai “tự lực cánh sinh” mọi chi phí đến dự festival. Người đó
xuống máy bay, đã tự thuê khách sạn riêng để ăn, nghỉ tươm tất, đang chờ ngoài
cửa tòa thị chính của ông.
Ma Đơ Len nghĩ: Thôi thì vì phép lịch sự truyền thống của người Châu Âu xưa nay
với bằng hữu bang giao. Thêm đũa thêm bát, có thêm mâm đâu mà sợ tốn kém. Mà
thế kỷ 21 rồi, chuyện ăn uống có gì là quan trọng. Người ta đường sá xa xôi, bỏ
ngày bỏ buổi, bỏ tiền bỏ của cất công đến tận đây là vì người ta muốn cái
festival nhà mình tổ chức lần đầu thành công rực rỡ, đâu phải người ta đến vì miếng
ăn!
- Ra mời ông ta vào!
Lệnh của Ma Đơ Len ban ra, được hai tiếp tân một nam, một
nữ ra đón, dẫn Trạch Văn Đoành bước trên thảm đỏ tiến vào phòng đại tiệc. Trạch
diện nguyên bộ cũ thời lính chiến 1914 - 1918. Mặt Trạch vênh vênh với “đôi
lưỡng quyền nhô ra như gây sự với người ta” . “Cái nhìn
tự đắc như cái nhìn của một kẻ có thể nhấc người ta lên như nhấc một cái lông” (Nam Cao
– Đôi móng giò). Đi được nửa đường thảm đỏ, Trạch đưa tay lên lột chiếc mũ chào mào ra khỏi đầu, oai hùng vẫy vẫy mọi
người đang đổ dồn mắt về phía mình, để trơ ra cái đầu “tiền văn minh hậu sư
cụ”.
Thấy Trạch oai vệ quá, Ma Đơ Len vội vàng nhao tới bắt tay. Đông Ky Sốt tưởng
đó là kẻ tình địch đến để cướp nàng Đuyn xi nê, vội quát gọi Xăng sô đưa cho
cây dáo! AQ và Lỗ Toàn Nhi thấy Trạch Văn Đoành đến, được hoan nghênh ầm ầm, cả
hai tỉnh bơ giả vờ như không trông thấy, nghe thấy chi hết. AQ, Lỗ Thị cầm mỗi
người một ly rượu chạy lại chỗ Chi Chi Kốp, Đông Gioăng, Sít Ca Lét (Scarlett)
chạm cốc làm quen ra điều ta đây người cường quốc, bang giao với người cường
quốc.
Chí Phèo thấy có thêm đồng hương sang dự, phấn khởi ra
mặt, tơn tởn sấn tới vồ lấy tay Trạch với ý định liên kết đồng minh cho có thêm
vị thế, liền bị Trạch hất tay ra không thèm bắt. Chí Phèo tưởng Trạch quên
mình, hai tay Chí vồ lại tay Trạch lắc lắc mạnh:
- Ơ, kìa anh Trạch! Chí đây mà! Chí Phèo làng Vũ Đại đây
mà. Anh Trạch quên Chí rồi sao?
Trạch hất mạnh lần nữa làm tay Chí Phèo bật tung ra.
Trạch quát:
- Hỗn xược! Thứ bậc nhà ngươi đâu đáng được bắt tay ta?
Chẳng gì ta cũng có chức sắc ở làng, còn mi chỉ là hạng thứ dân củi rều củi
mục, bèo bọt trôi sông không ai thèm vớt. Dựa vào cái mác bần, cố nông mà lên
đời được mấy chục năm nay không chịu tu tâm sửa tính lúc nào cũng rượu chè be
bét. Ỷ vào cái chức đội trưởng sản xuất hợp tác xã để ăn bớt ăn xén bắp ngô,
lượm lúa của bà con xã viên mà không biết xấu hổ - Xéo!
Nghe Trạch nói vậy, Chí thấy cay cay sống mũi, vơ ngay
lấy chai rượu trên bàn giơ lên gõ gõ vào không khí:
- Toạc
móng heo cho anh biết nhé! Đây là đảo Hòa Bình chứ không phải làng Vũ Đại ao tù
đâu mà anh đòi cấm chợ ngăn sông! Chẳng qua Chí này muốn có đồng hương cho vui
chuyến đi chứ Chí này đâu cần cái bắt tay vớ vẩn với anh! Chí đến trước còn được lần lượt bắt tay ngài Ma Đơ
Len, Rô bin sơn, Đông ky sốt, AQ, Đông Gioăng… đàng hoàng hẳn hoi. Cái chức
chánh cựu “xây dựng” bằng mấy mâm cỗ khao làng thì giá trị quái gì ở đây mà
nhặng xị lên ba đồng xu xanh căng gỉ!
Mấy người
tiếp tân thấy vậy vội vàng chạy tới khoác tay lôi mỗi người ra một bàn, ấn vai
bắt cả hai ngồi xuống, rót cho mỗi người một ly rượu vang gí vào tay:
- Mời
ngài nâng cốc!
- Mời
ngài nâng cốc!
Chí và
Trạch được chạm cốc với hai nhân viên tiếp tân cũng lấy làm hãnh diện ra mặt.
Sau đó không khí buổi tiệc được khởi động trở lại tưng bừng. Trạch chợt nghĩ
tới túi bánh mỳ Ma đơ in VN mang theo để ở khách sạn, bèn quay về lấy đem đến
biếu Ma Đơ Len. Ma Đơ Len nhận túi quà biếu, bảo ngưởi thư ký mở ra xem. Viên
thư ký mở túi lôi ra chục chiếc bánh mỳ để lên bàn. Thấy thế Ma Đơ Len hơi tái
mặt, nhưng ông vẫn bình tĩnh, phớt ăng lê, mỉm một nụ cười chẳng ra buồn cũng
chẳng mấy vui, rồi mỗi tay cầm đôi chiếc bánh mỳ giơ cao, vẻ mặt đầy hài hước,
nói với mọi người:
- Thưa
các quý bằng hữu Năm Châu bốn biển có mặt tại đây. Ma Đơ Len tôi ngày xưa chỉ
vì bánh mỳ mà bị tù tội. Cái thế giới này cho đến giờ vẫn vậy, vẫn kẻ ăn không
hết người lần không ra. Thập kỷ đầu tiên thế kỷ 21 có tí sướng hơn xưa chút
chút, nhưng các đô thị thì cứ phình ra, ruộng đồng thì bị co hẹp lại, nơi này
nơi kia vẫn còn người đói khát, oan ức, khổ đau. Oan ức không biết kêu đâu cho
thấu, đành ngồi oán trời trách đất. Oán trời trách đất không thấu đành ngậm bồ
hòn làm ngọt với nhau để bờ xôi ruộng mật thu hẹp tận sân nhà, chỉ còn là mấy
luống rau cải rau muống nhỏ nhoi. Chúng ta, hôm nay họp mặt ở đây để chuẩn bị
cho một festival. Cũng là để bàn nhau làm sao cho nhân loại có thật nhiều bánh
mỳ và hoa hồng! Bánh mỳ và hoa hồng muôn năm! Hòa bình, tự do với lòng nhân ái
muôn năm!

CHI PHEO ATENDED THE FESTIVAL
Madelein, Mayor of the wild island in which
Robinson took shelter for many years,
because of a stormy sea had made his boat drifted on shore while his
trans-ocean exploration. Since settling here and then becoming the Mayor, he has developed the open seaport for trade and
business. This has made the island prosperity and famous travelling. He named
the island Hoa Binh. The Hoa-Bình island has been full of conveniences and
entertainments such as three-star hotels, five-star hotels, golf course, tennis
court, football stadium qualified for international football matches. The
island's beaches has been so clear that one can see shoals of fish lively
swimming from the sandy bottom. There has been a stream rising from underground
that always keep water warm and not so salty to cause the tourists' skin
sunburnt as it was elsewhere. Delicacies and seafood have been plentiful and
cheap. The climate of the island and
soil can be always good and favourable for planting and growing up all kinds of
fruit trees and seeds in the world. Otherwise, they have also given good fruits
that were even more fragrant and sweet than their same native ones.
The island of Hoa-Bình always has many places rented
by non-government organizations for conferences about volunteer activities, and
for services such as secondhand clothes collections; "lucky number sim
card” on sale; auction sale for pictures, photos or treasures according to some
rich men dreaming of reputation... One night, Madeleine has come up with an
idea to hold a festival so that he can get money to help the poor living in
remote areas, out of hunger several days perhaps. Madelein has suddently thought
of an idea that the festival will be held in Hòa-Bình island and include a lot
of famous novel characters over the world. They will meet and communicate with
one another, from that they can learn about merits in which every one of them
have contributed for his or her own country in the past years. How they improve
human dignity, social security and happiness, and how far their dream of
freedom and human rights have been performed! Then he set up an agendas for his
above-mentioned purposes.
He has nominated Mr. Robinson to be a provisional
chairman, and he takes charge of deputy chairman of the temporary committee.
The official executive board will be elected later. He only invites one person
for each country. Five following persons invited: Don Quixote from Spain; Don
Juan from France; Chichikov of Rusia; Chí Phèo of Vietnam, and AQ of China
etc... He has ordered his staffs using his own plane to pick them up right to
each country. His list of chosen delegates has been also reviewed and completed
by Mr.Robinson, the provisional chairman.
Hearing that Chi Pheo has been invited to attend the festival; Tam Binh; Chi Dau; Trach Van Đoanh; Xuan Toc Đo; Lao Kho, and Chu Van Quyenh, altogether they have gone to the office of Foreign Affairs to appeal about this. As the Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs let them know that the choice only belonged to the authority of the festival, so with disappointment they have gone off there, and silently pleaded that Mr.Madeleine made a wrong selection, because he has not known anything about the Vietnamese literature! “Invite person unqualified! What is kind of idiot, Chi Pheo that he has been invited but us?”
They have
criticized that Chi Pheo is not eligible for a delegate of the festival,
but they are!
They
have been gathering in knots and criticizing the organization
board and Mr. Madelen that they have been lack of experience in selection for
the delegates.
Then,
relating this matter with problem of Nobel prize for literature, they have gone
on saying that the Nobel literature jury with their memberships' foolish and
bad lifestyle have not had a sense of beauty for VietNamese literature.The ward
only given out every year to the long nosed and blue eyes writers. Those people
were less than fifty years old with snow-white hairs, but they were so miserly
that they didn’t want to spend money to make the hair shining black; looking
like young man; looking as ageless as the sun,looking like young writers in
Viet Nam. It has been true that they are typical Scot! All of the verses, novels written in pidgin
English. Those works written in French;
German; Spanish;Portuguese,Turkish language, even they have come up to the
standard, must be translated into English if the authors had expected their
works might be examined for this prize. It seemed that they wanted to puzzle
people by asking for the nature of preditability; epic; timelines, and human
nature “What a monkey! We spit at your penetration of empire-colonial. We don’t
care!”
Thi
No, Chi Pheo's girl friend is so happy about her belovedboyfriend tobe invited
for the festival. She has called a taxi to take Chi Pheo to a local fashion
shop. She has bought for him a dress suit; a pair of shoes; felt-hat, an
expensive silk umbrella for shading hot sunlight, rain, and in use as a cane
for a long walk. As his knees get hurt by protestingly jumping up and down
throughout his slaved lifetime, so he always feels pain when he walks.
In elegant dress, Chi Pheo has looked as gentle as an
Europe politician, he has come back Vu Dai village. Seeing Chi Pheo getting off
the taxi, the whole Vu Dai villagers have gathered around him and have seen how
handsome he has been! Some middle-age matrons felt regret and asked by
themselves, "Why don’t I see him worthy before? How unfortunate it
is!" The story had spreaded out till the officials of village committee
knew it, and the chief officer has been assigned to investigate right away. In
the interrogation, he has submited the bilingual letter of invitation in which
his name has been clearly written on, at the same time, it has been also
mentioned that the organization of the festival will pay all expenses in need
for his travel. As the letter has been sent to him in person, so the local
government have not known about this . If the letter has been sent by post , it
might be surely that any relative of the local authorities could already have
replaced his position! Therefore all of them have surprised about this true
story. There has been no way to change the situation, these local authorities must accept this unexpected
matter and have realized that Mr. Chi certainly would make their village
honour. And then, they have urgently summoned a joint-departments, sitting
included a lot of union, departments such as the fatherland front agency, veteran
organization, youth union, elder union to discuss about Mr. Chi's festival
attendance.
“The major matter are that how Chi will dress when he
go abroad. Being a Vietnamese, he will be dressed in Vietnamese traditional
costumes. It is so prejudice that the foreigner can get him wrong to be a
Korean, a Japanese or a Thailand people, once he will dress in western-style
clothes has bought by Thi No! All things considered, finally they come to a
decision that trousers and shoes are all right and the upper dresses is the
only important thing! So that the village cultural fund will be paid for his
Vietnamese-style black robe covered by a waistcoat, and a "Nón
Tai-bèo" (A Vietnamese guerrilla' s broad-brimmed hat). This inventive
fashion both match with the three progressive movement, and with the mixture of
Vietnamese traditional nature and human modern civilization! At the same time,
through his upper half of Vietnamese ancient modern fashion and his under half
of human modern fashion that let foreigners see how Vietnamese people
intelligent and inventive are ; whatever original things they have , we can
transform them into our original inventive things! For example , we can
transform the style of felt hat into a new style of "Nón Tai-bèo "!
As a saying goes, "Necessity is the mother of invention " so , in the
early 20th century, by assembling some steel tubes, a rickshaw without pair of
shafts and a bicycle, our forefathers had made a pedicab. Now, what comfortable
is, when people no longer pull and walk by a rickshaw, but only sitting on the
saddle and driving a pedicab. As everyone know, we have imported East Germany's
Ifa trucks, and transformed them into coaches. And even though the European and
American are as rich as Rockefeller, but they have no occasion costing some
money to get into a coach like this (It was a truck used in carrying pigs ,
sheep before), maybe to get hurt and spend any time in the hospital because
this kind of coach often self overturns and plunges into rice-field or chasm!
They could violently criticize about this tragedy! But the Vietnamese see that
it is so stupid when they are rushing into fighting with gayal! Someone have
died, but they do not quit hold of the foolish game!”
Three days
later, a car has come to Mr. Chi's house and has taken him to the airport. The
plane has taken off and flying in the high sky, going to the festival. What
happy it has been! The plane has landed at China airport to pick a good
neighbour, AQ up. AQ is so happy to
board a plane. His pigtail hanging down and waiving behind his back. Half of
the front-head is shaven to show the fake-bald forehead swelling like a
western-scholar Western-Confucianism. AQ has
been neatly in Chinese-style jacket and the
trouser of Levis brand. Both feet wore makeshift shoes which made of cloth. AQ has swaggered
stepping to the stairs of the plane ,then a woman hurriedly crushing
into the plane. But she has been held by people who come to see AQ off at the
airport. Being held unexpectedly, she has screamed: “God-damned! Do you know
who am I?” The holders shook their heads to show that
they do not understand what she has said. “I am Lo Thi, Lo Thi Toan Nhi!
Without me, how come today your Han race has a population of 1.5 billions. Get out of my way!”
Some people
hold Lo Thi tightly and explain that she
has been not invited by Mr Madelein. Lo Thi pulled her body out of the
holders’s hands and put one hand on her's hip, the finger of the other hand pointed to the
direction of the plane. “He do not invite me, but I still go there. The grandchild of my sons and daughters will
support for my travel. My children, there is a son who married with English
woman,my daughters married with American; German;Russian, Canada all got. I can
even travel by spaceship. Peace Island, I just
fly and come right away. Do not look down on me!” It has been true, the
next day Lo Thi alone with a private plane has flied to the island. Mr. Madelen
has been throwing a big party to entertain the delegates then he is informed
that there has been Lo Thi, the second representative of China who has been not
invented coming. This new made Madelen surprise and did not know what
happening. Maybe, his secretary has been wrongly in making the invitation. He
has turned toward the literary adviser and asked him who was the author to create the
character of Lo Thi, Chinese. His adviser has said that Lo Thi has been the
character in the novel of “Treasures of Life” created by the writer, Mac Ngon,
She has represented for Chinese women who have been patient; standing the
outdated -customs of the country with a lot of cruel kings, whoever made a
minor guilt could be killed by cutting off the head.From the time of Eastern
Zhou & Warring States to Han –So then Three
Kingdoms (Wei, Wu and Shu) to send a punitive against East & West nations
thousand years ago. In the 20 th century, war fighting for the power happened
constantly from decade to the other, Lo Thi
has ever gone through all kinds of bitterness such as poverty; hunger.
For gaining the head position of the family, she has damaged the dignity
of faithful chinese woman. She has slept
around with seven men to have eight children.
Madelein has thought that Lo Thi
should have
worthy been to be invited. He has appologized the guests for his fifteen-minute
absence. He has believed that it was not fair to invite AQ only. For a big
country like China with a great leap forward in its literature, it should have
been invited a group of ten persons.
While Donkihote of Spain still was in his mother’s womb,the Chinese had created
Sun Wukong; Zhu Bajie; Sha Wujing with forest spirits, sea devils riding upon
cloud and wind; turning into God; blocking the way of the honest people to tear
them in piece for sucking their blood and eating them.
Where is festival not having the uninvited in excess?
Formerly, when he visited to S country
to attend festival of an ancient-Royal Palace, he had found that even there
were lots of odds and ends, they still organized very good.As a woman, Lo Thi dared
to bear the expenses to come here for the festival, it should give woman the
priority first.
Madelein has
driven the car himself right to the staircase of the plane. He has apologized
Lo Thi and picked her up to the banquet. He asks his staff to prepare another banquet with a lot of cooking
hot dishes. Madelein and executive board have given Lo Thi a respectful
receive.
Meanwhile in
Viet Nam, hearing Lo Thi of China spending her own money for going to the
festival, the face of Trach Van Doanh has turned in red, he has called his
children, grandchild those who are rich businessman in agriculture- land
trading to ask them for hiring a charter plane going to the festival. The
villagers have advised him not being stupid to go, because he hasn’t been
famous as Chi Pheo, “who know who you are there?” Regardless of what everybody
said, Trach has done as his will. What
people said did not make him discouraged. He has beaten his breast while talking to everybody: “ I hasn’t been
famous as Chi Pheo, but my achievement in Europe was plenty. I had ever helped
France for fighting in particular, and for whole of Europe during the first
world war in general. I have still been keeping the medal rewarding by them
here!” He was talking and taking out a small pack from the breast pocket,then
he was unbuttoning the tie-string of the pack; holding the medal which was hung
on his forefingertip, and then dangling
it in front of everybody. After that, he has run into the house to open the
chest and has brought out a grey coat (pardessus); a garrison-cap; godillots , a belt designed by rounding beehive holes. Since
he came back from France, Trach kept all
of the uniform as remembrances. “Should I be more worthy of having the priority than Chi Pheo; AQ, Lo Thi?
If these material evidences are not
value enough for attending the festival in Hoa Binh Island, I will spend my own
money to buy a package tour to go
there. People have spent money to buy position let alone buy a festival tour
for fun some days. It’s small matter!”.
Next day, Trach Van
Doanh has been in godillots
and grey jacket (pardesus), alone go to
attend the festival. It made all of Vu
Dai citizens be white with fear.
Tam Binh; Chi Dau, Xuan Toc Do have also
wanted to go to the festival when they has heard that Trach Van Doanh spended
his own money for the tour. But infortunately, they couldn’t afford enough financial
resources. The children of these characters have been still as poor as church mouses, inherited their fathers’s
poverties. Their plights have been nothing better than before. Just a wishful
thinking. In 1945, Dau, as a farmer jointed in revolt carrying bamboo to go for
burnning the barn of Japanese to rob
rice then to share for the poor. She had jointed in seizing the power, then
taking part in revolution activities in enemy-occupied area till the victorious- resistance day. In the time of land reform, she had been
nominated for a chairwoman of commune for few years but her education was only
at the level of mass education, therefore her superior sent her to continuation
School for education improvement. However, her family- situation was lack of
man power, she had to resign and to join agricultural co-operative to do the
field work for cooperative mark. It was easier than working free for commune.
For this reason, Dau’s family has been still poor as before.
Tam Binh only
joined the Army after the revolution had achieved success. She was in company
with Nam Saigon, followed the troops to march ahead southern to annihilate the
fiendish imperial. Since she remained only one hand, she couldn’t press the
trigger. She intended to serve in emergency medical care or in cooking for the
soldiers, but she couldn’t do that with only one hand though she had got much
enthusiasm She has stayed for peddling drinking-water in a railway station. Nam Saigon
came back southern for fighting and sacrificing himself on his beloved
fatherland. Tam Binh has had a mind to go abroard to know here and there for
one time, but people usually say :”No money, no talk”, Binh suppressed her's
desire to think of Hoa Binh Island with the spirit of distant encouragement.
Xuan Toc Do
took part in seizing power at the district of inner Hanoi. Nine-Year Resistance
War (from 1945 to 1954), he had jointed the army and suffered severe injuries
to make him lose his health for fighting. He had been switched to one agency as
security guard until his retirement. Feeling retirement not interesting,he
bought a tricycle-carrier and registered
for his son to transport goods. As for him, he applied for a post of
security guard in a tennis court. In general, his family has had enough to eat,
where is the money for thinking of festival?
Trach Van Doanh
has been supported finance for going to the festival, he has gone himself to
Hoa Binh Island on a charter flight. The day setting off, he has waken up early
to go to the market for buying pig's trotters, coming to Super Market to buy a
pack of high-grade bread made in VN as a gift for the Mayor. Trach has thought:
“Maybe Mr. Madelen like to eat bread. If not, why did he steal bread in the time
of his poverty? Pig's trotters taken with me in case they throw entertainment
show, there are something to throw to offer actresses and actors”. While
Madelein has been having entertainment and cheering with everybody, there has
been a news that the second character from Viet Nam coming festival by his own
finance. That man has deplaned and checked in the hotel himself, awaiting
outside the town hall.
Madelein has thought”: Well! As European
traditonal politeness to diplomatic relations, giving some more dishes not costly
much. The 21 st century already! It is no great matter of eating and drinking.
People come here not because of eating. They have no reservations in distant
way; spending their time and their money because of wishing our first festival
to achieve great success”. Madelein’s order has been delivered, there
have been two receptions going out for leading Trach Van Doanh stepping on the
red carpet, entering the banquet room. Trach has been decked out in the
battledress. His face is haughty with the prominent
cheek-bones as if it picked a quarrel with somebody. “A look was self-satisfied
of the person who could lift someone up as if people lifted up a hair” (Nam
Cao- Pig's trotters).
Stepping a
halfway on the red carpet. Trach has taken off his garrison-cap to show his
nude head, waving people who have been gathering up their eyes on him.
Seeing Trach so
impressive, Madelein has hastily rushed on shaking his hand. Having a thought
that Trach may be a rival in love coming here to take away Duyn xi ne,
Donkihote has stormed blusteringly and
asked Xang -xo to give him a spear. As for AQ and Lo Thi, to see Trach has been
received by a warm welcome, they have pretended not to know, to hear anything.
Each of them hold a glass of wine to
step forward the place of Chichkov; Donjuan, Scarlet to clink glasses for making their
acquaintance. They have want to show themselves that they are from powerful
countries so they can have relations with people from powerful countries. Chi
Pheo has shown his eager face rushing to seize Trach’s hand with the intension
of allying each other for position enhancement. Trach has refused to shack Chi
Pheo’s hand by pushing out. Chi Pheo has
thought that Trach might be forget him so he seized Trach’s hand again shaking
sharply: “Oh! Trach, Chi here!, Chi from Vu Dai village here! Have you
forgotten me? Trach had pushed Chi Pheo’s hand sharply again and shouted at
him: “You bastard!” As your low-class, you are not worthy to shake my
hand! I had been a village dignitary while your were just a class of grassroot
like a rotten -wood drowning; nobody wanted to fish out. You have relied on the title of poor peasants to change your life
for few ten years. You haven’t wanted to improve your behavious; you have
always indulged in drinking You have relied on the post of food production team leader of co-operative
to appropriate maize, rice from members of a cooperative. Shame of you! Scram!” To hear Trach said so, Chi felt stingingly
hot on the bridge of his nose; he has seized a wine bottle on the table to
raise up and to tap on the air. “Speak plainly! Here is Hoa Binh island, not
billabong Vu Dai village that you ask for hierarchy! It has been only because I
want to have a countryman for the trip being pleasure, I don’t need your bullshit shaking. This Chi has come first to
have the honor to shake hand Mr. Madelein; Robison; Donkihote; AQ, Don Juan
properly. The title of former Chief of construction equal to few plate to feast
villagers for a nomination is not worth a
straw to make noise here.” The receptionists have seen both of them quarrel
then they have hurriedly rushed to pull them out each with a table, poured out
each person a glass of wine. After that the air of the feast became animatedly
again. Trach has suddently thought of a bread pack made in VN left in the
hotel, then he was coming back to take it to give Madelein. Madelein has taken
it and asked secretary to open. His secretary opened the pack to take out ten
of bread load and to put them on the table. Seeing it, Madeleine’sface has
become a little pale, but he remained calm; emotionless as Anglo Saxon.
He has smiled neither sad nor happy then each hand holding a pair of bread to
raise highly, his face has shown a full
sense of humor. He has told everybody:
“My dear friends from all over the world to be here!
I, Madelein, was formerly jailed just because of bread. The world is still the same so far,
still some is rich, some is poor. The fist decade of the 21 st century has been
a little bit happier than before, but
cultivated lands had been reducing while those for municipality had been
increasing. Here and there are still
people hunger; unjust, miserable. Apart from God being blamed, They hadn’t
known where to call for. The blame couldn’t reach to God, they had to accept to sit down under an abuse. We
are here today to celebrate for the festival, and also to discuss how to make a
lot of breads and roses for human
being.Bread and rose forever! Peace; Freedom; Human love forever!”
